THOR LVX uses gamma rays rather than x-rays. By using a much more powerful energy source THOR LVX can penetrate more fully. Additionally, rather than just creating an image of what is inside, THOR LVX's gamma rays initiate a small scale photo-nuclear reaction. This reaction uniquely identifies the chemical composition of any explosive or narcotic. This fingerprint can also be used to determine the quantity and location.
In addition to accurate detection (+99.9%), THOR LVX boasts a quick processing speed. When used to scan luggage THOR LVX's scanning speed is estimated to be more than three times faster than the competition.
Operating costs are expected to be on par with or lower than the competition as Valley Forge's EDS system is fully automatic will not require personnel to screen objects being examined.
